We’ve all gotten used to seeing battery-saving LED flashlights and even lamps, but Lexus and Audi are taking it a step further and fitting LED headlights to their LS Sedan and R8 models.

The LED lamps are used for all headlights as well as turn signal indicators. Audi currently only fits LEDs on the taillights

According to Visteon, the developers of the LED headlights, there have been technical issues regarding heat dissapation

“LEDs need to be thermally managed for heat dissipation, withstand engine-compartment temperatures and also require precise electronic current control over their operating range. Visteon has addressed these challenges and proven the viability of the technology with its LED Front Lighting demonstration vehicle.”

but will save power:

Depending on configuration, LED-based front lighting sources require up to 40-percent less power than traditional lighting sources.
