A Must See Movie Download: My Blue Heaven

April 30th, 2010 Penelope Hines No comments

Not a fan of Nora Ephron? Well, she hasn’t exactly been knocking them out of the park, lately. What with Bewitched and some fairly weak romantic comedies, it seems like she’s just fallen into a habit of trying to repeat the success of When Harry Met Sally by simply ripping herself off. However, there was a time when Ephron was still willing to push the boundaries of what she was capable of as a writer and create new films, not tired rehashes. My Blue Heaven is one of her best. Give it a try next time you want to download movies.

Steve Martin and Rick Moranis star as, respectively, a member of the Italian mafia, and the FBI agent assigned to protect him until he can testify. Martin is shipped to a picturesque small town and, yes, it’s just another fish out of water movie, but it’s very well done this time, very funny, and when it comes down to it, an old, cliche story is fine so long as it’s done properly.

The movie is funny, and that’s what it really comes down to in a comedy. Steve Martin is really at his best here, as is Moranis, and even some jokes that should, by all rights, fall flat, wind up providing some of the biggest laughs of the film. It’s your standard odd couple story, Martin is morally ambiguous, Moranis is uptight, but it works well, these two skilled actors make it feel fresh and new.

Martin quickly takes over the little town he’s been sent to and starts his own thing. He meets a few other protected witnesses, they decide that they’re not getting enough from the government, and they start hijacking trucks and forming their own little mini-mafia in their friendly little town. Watching these old goombas take the town over is really delightful, watching Steve Martin talk his way out of trouble is even better.

Interestingly, while the movie does get into some violent subject matter, it never really “gets ugly”. The violence always winds up being funny rather than frightening, which is nice, since it can be difficult to film violence in a comedy just right so as not to disturb the audience. No matter how gritty it gets, though, the movie stays funny against all odds.

The movie also draws some great comedy from Martin’s incredible ability to juggle women. He has two girlfriends and a wife, and somehow, they never find out about one another. This is funnier and funnier as the film goes on and you start to wonder how he manages to drift in and out of these women’s lives without ever drawing any suspicion. Maybe he’s just that charming?

The movie has a really great look to it. The whole point of the film is the contrast between Martin’s violent, urban upbringing, and the small town friendliness and beauty of his new environs, and the cinematography really does the trick. Martin’s new home is really set in a gorgeous land of blue skies and green hills.

It may or may not be one of the greatest films of all time or anything like that, but it’s very funny, Martin and Moranis are in top form, and Ephron proves once more that, when she has a fun idea, she can still write a great comedy film, even if she doesn’t always feel like it.

Green Screen: How To Use Effectively

April 30th, 2010 Phil Guye No comments

The advent of satellite television saw the virtual explosion of television channels, broadcasters, production homes and content producers. This is because satellite TV and direct to home platforms have indeed pushed the frontiers of television broadcasting beyond all conceivable boundaries and onto a worldwide scale. It is not surprising that TV networks across the globe utilize the utilization of a Green screen.

One of the common techniques that are used in TV program production is that of using a Green screen in the background of the studio where a selected program is being shot. This is an element of the technique of chroma key which deals specifically with the removal of certain images in the background of the shot and superimposing this with some other image, which is better for the production. For example, one can employ a screen that’s green in color behind a broadcaster who is reading out the weather reports. When viewers watch the program, the green or blue screen as the case may be, is replaced with a weather map or scenes of certain towns or satellite images being shown instead.

A Green screen is particularly helpful for chroma key uses on account of the fact that normal human skin tone has little parts of green in it. This provides help in high standard of image superimposition as well as the replacement of background, without interfering much with the general view of the broadcaster who is standing in the foreground. If there had been any green tint or tone in human skin, parts of the body would have become invisible when using the other colored screen, making the effect quite strange and highly inappropriate and incongruous.

One of the main advantages of using a Green screen is that it is fairly easy to execute as well as being cost effective. If one were to employ a huge plasma or HDTV screen behind the broadcaster, the effect could be excellent, but the price tag would be far greater than using a green screen. In these days of recession, where cost management is the key, the dice is loaded in favor of using less expensive options.

One can simply make a Green screen that can be used in TV program production. For this, something as straightforward as a table cloth can be employed. This material has to be frequently painted, so that there are no smudges or uneven areas that would stand out when the show goes on air. One can also use a plain wall that’s evenly painted in green to form the colored background. One of the suggestions to remember when using such a screen is if the background image is one of trees or forests; green is a more acceptable color to use than blue for the background, while if the image is of the sea or the sky, green would not be so good. Using a green screen is therefore an efficient means of making use of chroma key technique in television program production, which is popular due to its simplicity and inexpensiveness.
